Jako Books Publishes FATED by Sydney Tobierre

“A poignant and compelling memoir of the enduring powers of a mother’s love, the triumph of good over evil, and the restorative power of nature.”

Jako Books is pleased to announce the publication of FATED, a memoir by Sydney Tobierre set mostly in the south of St. Lucia. The writing of the memoir was sparked by the author’s need to bring to light the malicious circumstances of his mother’s premature death.

“I chose to love and not hate. A life of cruelty wasn’t who I am and who my mom meant for me to be. She taught me to be a decent human being … I needed to write about my childhood experiences, most of all about my mother, a decent woman, a humble soul. I couldn’t rest until I revealed to the world the untimely death of my mother by another woman, all because of jealousy.”

So motivated, the author brings us a coming-of-age memoir in which the mysterious and suspicious death of the loving mother of a precocious, full-of-promise, seven-year-old boy, shatters his world and changes the course of his life forever.

Of FATED, novelist, essayist and memoirist, Dr. Anderson Reynolds, said: “Set against the backdrop of a lush and captivating tropical paradise reminiscent of the Garden of Eden but belying the excruciating circumstances of a boy’s life, Fated is a poignant and compelling story of the enduring powers of a mother’s love, the triumph of good over evil, and the restorative power of nature.”

Multiple award-winning St. Lucian poet, Modeste Downes, said:FATED is a most welcome addition to Saint Lucia’s growing body of literature. It is populated with some of the most colorful and interesting characters of the day and is replete with intrigue, jealousy, injustice, witchcraft, and superstition, all on an island still struggling to come to grips with its recent slavery and colonial past.”

Author, Sydney Tobierre
