Tiwè Lanmen An Kwi Pwèt-la is a classic and humorous St. Lucian folk song that has withstood the test of time. In this most recent rendition, Wayne Benoit of the Phases Band has modernized the musical arrangements to hopefully enable the song to reach a larger audience. As Jounen Kwéyòl 2018 approaches, The Phases Band is pleased to bring you this new version, which was recorded at Jako Studios and engineered by Marlon Florent.
Originally from Dominica, Wayne Benoit is Phases bandleader, lead guitarist, and one of the band’s three lead vocalists. A veteran musician, Wayne has been performing with bands since his late teens. He has performed with South Tent, Midnight Groovers, and First Serenade with whom he toured the UK and the Virgin Islands. Wayne has hinted that with his Dominican musical sensibilities mixed with St. Lucian and other musical expressions, Phases will be coming up with its own musical twists, of which his version of Tiwè Lanmen An Kwi Pwèt-la is yet another example.
Based in Vieux Fort and managed by Jako Productions, Phases is a five-piece band with three lead singers (all of whom play instruments) that plays most genres of popular music including reggae, soca, R&B, sentimental, POP, Jazz, and Country & Western. Besides performing at hotels, the band has performed at such events as Creative Industries Micoud Bon Tan, Assou Square Concerts in Vieux Fort and Castries, St. Lucia Independence Day Celebrations, Friday Night Gros Islet, Jazz a La Chaudiere, and Jazz Finale. Wherever Phases performs the audience can’t get enough of them; people, no matter their age, are compelled to dance. Phases have made grown men weep, and at Micoud Bon Tan, which is right next to a cemetery, the band was accused of raising the dead.
Tiwè Lanmen An Kwi Pwèt-la is Phases third single release on its way to releasing a 12-song album in early 2019. The first single, We Like It, was a groovy soca performed by Wayne Benoit, and the second single was Praise Jah, a reggae track performed by Gary Mongroo, Phases drummer and lead singer.
